Backyard Chickens for the Apple a Day Doc Gardens
One of this spring’s adventures has been expanding the Nourish Wellness + Apple a Day Doc gardens and kitchens with this sweet flock of chicks. They’ve been so fun to nurture and watch grow. By autumn we’ll be closer to fully sustainable urban gardening with love + TLC for the chicks yielding nitrogen strong compost for vibrant veggie gardens + organic & ethically raised laying hens for the kitchen! Watch for articles coming soon on making your own brooder box and ideas for choosing breeds, + creating a healthy habitat for your own backyard flock! Rosie the Wonder pup is training as a poultry guardian canine to help protect the flock (though when they are fully grown, some of the chicks may be bigger than she is!) All in all, this project has created opportunity for deeper learning about permaculture and organic animal husbandry while being heart opening and joyful at the same time! These 6 girls are full of personality and panache. A few have earned their names ( like Amelia, who was first to fly and Lil’Chicky who is the sassiest. ) Let us know what names jump out to you when you watch their video below. Open to creativity and community input!
What is your new adventure this spring? How are you cultivating neuroplasticity and heart expansion? Gotta keep growing peeps! Let us know what is inspiring you this spring! Leave a comment below.

As a big fan of fresh eggs and healthy living I applaud your decision to raise chickens backyard style. I look forward to future articles about the progress of the flock!
Thanks! I’m excited to see the first eggs! Will definitely share updates as these girls grow!
